I was introduced to my collaborator Linn in 2014.  At the time, he had completed a draft book and lyrics and was seeking a composer.  His pitch: "the show is a look at the personal drama behind the somewhat sterile popular view of Jane Addams as a starchy, high-minded social reformer. In fact she had a painful and fraught childhood and young adulthood, and was involved in one (and possibly two) long Lesbian relationships."  Also, she was Linn's aunt.  I couldn't resist.
